![Adam Hicks and Bridgit Mendler in Lemonade Mouth (2011)](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMjIyNzY5NjM4MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjY3MjA1NA@@._V1_.jpg)
The first scene I'm going to be talking about is from the 2011 DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie), "Lemonade Mouth", which is based on Mark Peter Hughes' 2007 novel of the same name. "Lemonade Mouth" is how five high schoolers meet in detention and end up forming a band called 'Lemonade Mouth' and also help cope and mend with their lives using music and friendship. This is one of my favorite DCOMs and it actually has really good music.
When Lemonade Mouth is preparing for the 'Rising Star' competition, their worlds' seem to fall apart. Wen (played by Adam Hicks) injures his eye when his father (played by Bob Jesser) asks him to be his best man. The other remaining band members also suffer from hardships and Wen and Olivia (played by Bridgit Mendler) contemplate whether they would be able to participate in the competition. Things get intense when Wen complains about his father getting remarried.
" 'I was helping my dad hang it up and he asked me to be his best man.' 'Wen that's great news!'
'No, okay, that's terrible news.' 'Oh.' 'Alright, just because Sydney wormed her way into my family, doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.' 'You're, you're ridiculous...Wen, wait, where are you going? Hey, we have to talk about tomorrow!' 'What's to talk about? Okay, we can't play, so we're out! You know, maybe, maybe this is a sign. Maybe it's time to call it quits.' 'What, so you just want to give up!?' 'Will you just be happy that you're off the hook and that you don't have to go on stage anymore.' 'Oh no, no! Wen, this isn't about Lemonade Mouth! This is about you not appreciating what you have! You have a family! Your dad, your sister, Sydney! I don't even remember my mom! I haven't talked to my dad in years and you have the nerve to feel sorry for yourself! Well okay, no, fine, go ahead and give up! I didn't even want to be in this band in the first place!' 'Then why did you do it!' 'Oh for you, you jerk! I did it for you.' "
It was interesting to see the strong yet shy Olivia stand up for herself. She basically slapped Wen in the face with reality. Sometimes, we all need to get a taste of reality. This definitely made me think about how many times I've complained about unimportant things when I should have been grateful for what I have.
The acting in this scene seems very genuine and well-rehearsed. I could feel the emotion in their voices with every crack and fluctuation.
![mcclain3](https://bckonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/mcclain3.jpg)
The second scene is from the 2014 DCOM, "How to Build a Better Boy". The movie seems pretty average at first glance but teaches a crucial lesson about not getting caught up in fantasies. The film revolves around two very intellectually superior high school besties, Mae (played by Kelli Berglund) and Gabby (played by China Anne McClain). When Mae lies about having an inhumanly amazing boyfriend, the pair decide to 'create' a boyfriend for Mae. They are soon being hunted by the government, while also testing their friendship, when Mae falls in love for her 'boyfriend', Albert (played by Marshall Williams). At times, the movie does objectify boys, but not in a way that you would expect. The movie is supposed to be funny and is pretty enjoyable.
When Mae is forced into this magical and very unrealistic world, she desires to have the perfect kiss with Albert. Soon, she realizes that the perfect world that she chose to live in, is filled with its own flaws and is very toxic.
" 'I can't. I'm sorry.' 'What's wrong?' 'The lights, the moon, you.' "
I'm sorry that the quote is very short, but this is the only part of her monologue that was available to me. This movie teaches its viewers that even the perfect situations can be so imperfect. Sometimes, living, in reality, is healthier than surrounding yourself with your unrealistic fantasies. The moment was truly perfect. The lighting, music, and atmosphere really helped empathize the will-power and strength of Mae. It also added meaning to Mae's refusal to kiss Albert and have her perfect moment.

The third scene that I'm going to be talking about is from the tv show "Jessie" (2011-2015). It's about how Jessie Prescott (played by Debby Ryan) leaves her home in Texas to become an actress in New York but with no home or money, she is forced to become a nanny to the crazy, famous, and very rich Ross kids. The show follows their journeys of becoming more and more like a family over the years.
When Jessie is getting ready to walk down the aisle, in the episode, "There Goes the Bride" (Season 3, Episode 24), the kids realize that Jessie will be leaving them and going to Africa with her soon to be husband, Brooks (played by Pierson Fode). The kids attempt to sabotage her bachelorette party and wedding, but Bertram (played by Kevin Chamberlin), their butler and Jessie's co-worker, stops the kids from further hurting Jessie and he reminds them how supportive Jessie has been to them.
" 'Kids, I know that this is hard for you! Okay, I get it and I am so sorry, but, I guess I was just hoping [that] you could find it in your hearts to be happy for me!' 'I am so disappointed in all of you! Jessie has put your happiness before her's for the last three years now! She's picked you up when you've fallen, she's made you laugh when you were sad. She even managed to turn you into young men and women that I don't find totally unbearable!... So, now it's time for you guys to return the favor. When she walks down that aisle tomorrow, she needs to know that you love and support her!' "
Bertram has always been used as the strict, weird, and comedic character, but in special times, he can be serious and guiding. His character growth throughout the series and his capacity for love for Jessie and the Ross kids makes me tear up. He truly cares about them and never wants either of them to get hurt, but wants to fully devote his support to the people he cares about. It is a very touching scene.

The fourth scene is from the tv show "And Mack" (2017-2019). The show follows the life of teenager Andi Mack (played by Peyton Elizabeth Lee) when her life is turned upside down. Her 'sister', Bex (played Lilan Bowden), is actually her mother. Andi navigates her drama-filled life with her friend group and her crush, Jonah Beck (played by Asher Angel) through the ordinary struggles of middle school.
When Cyrus (played by Joshua Rush) and Buffy (played by Sofia Wylie), two of Andi's best and closest friends begin to develop a distrust due to Cyrus continuing to be friends with T.J. (played by Luke Mullen) who was Buffy's rival at this point of time. Buffy eventually stops talking to Cyrus. The two of them come to the savior of their mutual friend, Jonah, when he needs help volunteering to make breakfast, in the episode, "Crime Scene: AndiShack" (Season 2, Episode 19). However, things quickly intensify when Cyrus begins to break down.
" 'You know, I'm actually glad [that] you're not talking to me. The silence is peaceful... Say something! Say anything! I don't want this silence, I can't handle the silence! Since the second grade, all that I've ever been to you is a good and supportive friend! Is this really how you want to treat me!? Right before you leave for good.' "
I love Joshua Rush's portrayal of Cyrus and Cyrus is one of my favorite tv show characters of all time. The way Cyrus genuinely breaks down made me feel real anger towards Buffy, she's literally mad at him for such a stupid and selfish reason. Cyrus is always a good and supportive friend, just like he says. He even treats the 'villains', T.J and Amber (played by Emily Skinner) with respect and kindness. He even gently lets Iris (played by Molly Jackson), his short-time 'girlfriend' down, after realizing he doesn't have feelings for her that way. Cyrus is such a compassionate and loving character and this scene really made me upset (that's the point, I like how it makes me feel real emotion).

The fifth and final scene that I'm going to be talking about is from the tv show "Girl Meets World" (2014-2017). The show is a spinoff of the beloved "Boy Meets World". The show follows Cory Mathews' (played by Ben Savage) daughter, Riley Mathews (Rowan Blanchard) and her friends.
In the episode, "Girl Meets the Forgiveness Project" (Season 2, Episode 23), Maya (played by Sabrina Carpenter), who is one of Riley's best friends, reaches out to her father, who abandoned her and her mother a long time ago. The episode focuses on how forgiveness is one of the best qualities of a human.
" 'This wasn't you Maya, this was all me. I couldn't provide comfort for you in a lightning storm and I was no good for you on a sunny day either. I blew every paycheck instead of providing food for the refrigerator and when you know [that] you're not good for people, you start not showing up and then you don't show up enough times and it begins to feel like leaving, until you do.' 'You were there for your new family, aren't you? What did they do that I didn't do?' 'You never did anything Maya, you were just a little girl. I was who I was and there is nothing you did or could have done. I, I just wasn't ready for you or for anyone, but I think I've changed. These people, believe that I am capable of something. They don't know who I was. They believe in who I am now.' 'Who are you?' 'I found a job and I've managed to keep it. I came back to tell you that I am grateful for what you wrote and I am sorry for what I did. I'm glad you're okay.' 'You found a job?' 'I did.' 'Your job was to stay. Thank you for telling me your side. My teacher thinks if I forgive you it will bring me peace and he's usually right about these things, but, I don't see how he's right about this one. I can't. Your job was to stay. You don't think I had it in me to allow my father to grow? I'm happy I wrote to you and heard what you had to say and it makes me feel better knowing that I had nothing to do with what you did. I always thought that this was my fault somehow, but it, it's not. I didn't do anything.' ... 'I've been angry for so long, but I'm not angry anymore.' ... 'I, I'm sorry. I failed. I know you wanted me to forgive him, but I, I didn't, I couldn't do it. You were wrong about this one Mr. Mathews.' 'I never expected that Maya. That kind of forgiveness, it doesn't come so easy. But life is a long time and, I hope you get there someday, but that was never what I was looking for right now.' 'What did you want from me?' 'Maya, did you forgive yourself?' "
Maya is such a strong character and to see her break down made me feel very sad. Earlier on in the show, Kermit (played by David Thomas Jenkins), Maya's father, was depicted as a 'monster', but to see that he is a human that made mistakes and was truly sorry for the damage he created was refreshing and eye-opening. Sabrina Carpenter's delivery was one of the best in the show, making this one of the best and potent episodes of the series. It is indescribably good and is definitely one of Disney Channel's highlights. Such an important topic was discussed with this episode and the emotion felt so genuine in this scene.
